Dr. Sridhar Yaratha has spent almost two decades caring for patients as a psychiatrist, and has spent the past 11 years with Gateway Homes. In addition, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha is affiliated with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), which has applauded the updated HEROES Act.

The proposed legislation, which has just passed the House, includes multiple new provisions, several of which have been highlighted by ASAM. Alongside providing the Healthcare Provider Relief Fund with $50 billion, the bill would enact a 14 percent increase in Federal Medical Assistance Percentage payments.

In addition, the proposal would increase Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration funding, among other provisions. In applauding these measures, ASAM has asked that the package be passed by the Senate and implemented quickly.

However, it also requests that the TREATS Act be extended. The law was implemented by the Trump administration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It waives regulatory restrictions focused on telemedicine, among other areas.
